Green Castle Estate has a strong precedent for applied research in agriculture, archeology and the biological and ecological sciences. Over the years a variety of partnerships were cultivated with entities such as the University of the West Indies, the Jamaica Coconut Board, and the Jamaica Agriculture Development Foundation to research and address issues at Green Castle Estate that have much broader relevance both within Jamaica and abroad. This precedent created a strong foundation from which to launch additional efforts under Greencastle Tropical Study Center.
Some examples of research and class work conducted at Green Castle include:
- University of Minnesota Tropical Water Quality Class taught by Dr. Jim Perry in conjunction with University of the West Indies Teaching Assistants Hugh Small and Sacha Todd.
- A collaborative partnership between the University of the West Indies and Murray State University resulted in archeological digs to study a number of Taino community sites at Greencastle Estate over a five-year period, from 1999 to 2003
