Bird Checklist at Greencastle
Endemic Birds of Jamaica
Bird Report 2006

 Birding at Green Castle Estate

Because of its diverse habitats, Green Castle is an excellent location to experience the great mix of resident and migratory birds of Jamaica. Through a university partnership, two graduate students and a number of volunteers have documented sightings of 109 species, including 20 of the 27 Jamaican endemics. Birders can access miles of farm roads and trails, two ponds, a marsh area and freshwater dam either through stays at the Estate House or by purchasing a daily access ticket. Those lodging at the Estate House will find that the veranda provides a relaxing place to watch birds in absolute comfort. All three endemic hummingbirds--doctorbirds, as Jamaicans call them--put on quite a show!

A birding or nature guide can be arranged at an additional charge.
